   Description of the area

This tiny gem town Icod de los Vinos with the numerous mansions, small palaces, churches and monasteries located about 15 km west of Puerto de la Cruz and is easily reached via the northern motorway and road. The emblem of this old wine city, as well as the entire island, is the oldest dragon tree in the world with a magnitude of 6 meters in circumference and 17 m in height. At whose feet botanical garden is home to plants from all parts and altitudes of the island and is definitely worth a visit. Particularly attractive for shoppers is the old town with many small shops. Opposite is the Plaza with the wonderful views of the city and the sea. Also worth is having a looka at the church from the 17th century. A few meters above is the small Plaza de la Constitución with the lovingly restored houses from the 16th to 18th centuries. In two wine bodegas you be kindly invited to taste the vine of Icod and buy wine. In the middle of the square, a garden with a fountain, which among other things, grows the rare candelabrum palm. Also famous is the Cueva del Viento, a volcanically formed cave 15 km length, which is located above Icod. The branched passages extend over several levels and are habitat for unique species. Located on the coast, in a deep canyon, a fine and black sandy beach of Playa San Marco. On the small promenade lure restaurants with fresh fish and various bars with snacks and refreshments. The beach is small, but visited mainly by locals during the summer holidays and therefore not overcrowded.
